Comparison of OASYS dental device with Somnodent MAS
I wanted to give you an update on how the Oasys has I been working for me since I switched from the Somnomed , Somnodent MAS, about 6 months ago.
To say the least, it has been a remarkable improvement. You already were aware that the Somnomed, Somnodent MAS, did provide some relief from the loud snoring that kept my wife awake at nights. Fortunately, I do not suffer from sleep apnea at this point in my life, but my serious allergies result in chronic sinus congestion which, in turn, cause severe snoring whenever I sleep (to some extent, even when sleeping on my side). The initial relief from the Somnomed , Somnodent MAS, was welcomed, but it did cause some jaw soreness in the mornings, and as my jaw adjusted to the settings, I would eventually have to adjust it out further, until I was eventually some "40 turns" off of the initial settings. This continual adjustment made me wonder about not only how this might be adversely affecting the position of my jaw over time, but also the overall effectiveness of the appliance. Aside from these concerns and side effects, the reduction of snoring was neither complete nor consistent (the relief that did occur was only temporary as the snoring would return as my jaw adjusted to the setting). Lastly, the Somnomed , Somnodent MAS, made it uncomfortable on my jaw to sleep on my side, so I was forced to sleep primarily on my back. Eventually, I lost interest in regularly using the Somnomed , Somnodent MAS.
The Oasys appliance was a welcomed alternative. It only took me two nights to find an effective setting, and it's been at that setting ever since. I do not have the morning jaw soreness that I had with the other appliance, and I immediately noticed the difference of greater comfort while wearing the Oasys (and sleeping on my side is not a problem). However, the greatest benefit of the Oasys is its effectiveness. The nasal tabs noticeably help my nasal breathing and the air passage in the mouthpiece allow air to flow freely through my mouth, without my tongue getting in the way.
The result, according to my wife, is the drastic reduction of snoring to only occasional occurrences, and when I do snore, it's simply a soft "purr-like" sound. Of course, it goes without saying that the whole family sleeps better, a quality of life element that we do not take for granted.
The idea of trying out another appliance after the Somnomed was not something I was looking forward to, especially since it was not a life or death issue for me, as it is for those with apnea. However, I was so surprised by the results to this point that I felt the need to describe my experiences to you and others in your field. Thank you so much for your efforts to help resolve my snoring issues; my whole family appreciates all your help. Feel free to pass along my comments to others who may be considering the Oasys appliance; I would highly recommend it to anyone with similar snoring or night-breathing issues.
Best,
John

| "The OASYS is very comfortable.
My nasal passages remain open all night and through the next
day. My difficulty breathing was due to a deviated septum --
I had to get up several times a night to use nasal sprays with
CPAP or another oral appliance that did not have nasal dilation. Dr. Abramson explained that when
you struggle to breathe through your nostrils, you irritate
the membranes which causes swelling and further difficulty in
breathing. I‘ve had uninterrupted sleep since the first
night of using the OASYS (May 18). My polysomnogram results
will be available soon." |

I saw the OASYS on television and decided to try it. I has been using the C-PAP machine for 8 months and was ready to give up. I adjusted to the OASYS immediately. I no longer make snoring noises and my wife is happy about that. My high blood pressure has gone down and generally, I feel more rested. I was worried about traveling with the big C-PAP machine, now I can take my OASYS appliance anywhere. I am surprised my doctor had never heard of it. I gave him a brochure. .....L Lange
I was diagnosed three years ago with mild OSA and told by the sleep doctor that I might be helped by this sleep device, but that I would probably do better with CPAP, the "gold standard." Not wanting to use CPAP, I decided to try the Oasys, and it was the turning point in my recovery. It took a while for me to get consistantly good results, but eventually I was able to look forward to going to sleep at night, knowing that I wouldn't be waking up repeatedly. Recently, I had a second sleep study and it showed that while wearing the Oasys, my RDI went from 9.1 to 1.0! That's wonderful, as only those who suffer from constantly disrupted sleep can appreciate......O Valmore
I was fitted with your O2 OASYS unit in early 2009 after not being able to tolerate using a CPAP machine. I have used my device almost every night since being fitted. I find that my nasal passages are immediately cleared on insertion. This leads to a faster and more restful sleep.
Because I have a tendency to roll over on my back during sleep, I have fitted myself with a rubber football and strap which keeps me on my side while I sleep.
Typically, I have a sound sleep and do not wake up during the night.
I am most pleased with the use of your device.....Bill
My dentist has provided me with an Oasys device for sleep apnea. I had used earlier devices from other companies, but they left my jaw locked so that i couldn't even remove the device without destroying it. According to a recent sleep study, I am sleeping much better because of your device, thank you....Erlinda
